Let’s learn more about it.

Flipgrid enables educators to create grids of short discussion-style questions that students respond with recorded voice. Grids could be sections, group of students, classes, faculty group, research groups or collection of leaners’ that are interested in the common set of questions.

Teachers can put ultimate number of questions in each grid; also one grid can hold multiple numbers of responses. In each grid, questions can be text based and short that includes basic formatting. Questions can even link to the documents or website.

  • Logged-in to create new grid, name your grid and then chose the privacy i.e. password-protected or not
  • Click on the “add new questions field” to add questions into your grid
  • Questions can be of 240 characters or less
  • Activate the grid once done with the list of questions
  • Share the set of questions in form of grid to your students
  • Flipgrid can notify teachers when replies come in, if they wish

Classroom Uses of Flipgrid

A lot of teachers just love this amazing app as a quick assessment tool for their classes. Students receive the link of the “Grid” privately and reply using recoded video. Many of the teachers think that such format of assessment is easy for students, however, it is not. Students have to carefully plan their answers as they have ninety second of time limits.  This process of answering question helps students to learn about the relevance of planning and outlining the answers as well as worth of concise communication.

Flipgrid service is easy to use for teachers as well as for the students. Students are given three second counts down before they finally submit their ninety second recorded video. Students can review their recoded video before they finally submit their response. They can even reshoot their video if they wish.

Flipgrid also enables their students to review each other’s video so that they can get new ideas and inspiration. Teachers must take advantage of this feature and encourage their students to watch the video.

Class timing is limited; it also limits the time of learning. Writing short paper and sharing with the class is a time-consuming process. However, with Flipgrid format, teachers can easily give assignment and students can easily review peer’s responses in a very short span of time. While reviewing each other’s work students can give constructively feedback to their peers.

About App

Flipgrid application is available for free on the App Store. Students using the computer can easily access the app. The only need is the webcam. Teachers can easily supervise the grid through web based interface and Mac or Windows. The app is available on iPad and will be soon available on iPhone and Andriod.

Flipgrid also offers free three week trial, so it is easy for users to understand the app before they actually buy it. As the education environment changes such form of assessments help teachers a lot in the classroom. Flipgrid is a service that should not be missed by any teacher.
