Northcoders, an education technology startup, has recently announced that it has secured £4 million of government funding.

With the fresh capital, the startup plans to continue its software coding bootcamps, allowing participants to be job-ready within 13 weeks. It will also help students in its new Data Engineering unit, which is due to launch in the fourth quarter of 2022. Further, the scholarships can be awarded anywhere in England, providing Northcoders with the opportunity to grow its geographical footprint in London and the south of England.

Founded by Chris Hill, Northcoders is a provider of training programmes for software coding, offering a range of training and software development solutions for individual and corporate customers. The company’s offering includes ‘bootcamp’ training courses, government funded apprenticeships, bespoke training courses and software development solutions for corporate customers. It operates a hybrid delivery model by providing its services through a combination of in person training, at one of Northcoders’ regional hubs, and digitally via training through its online platform.

Northcoders’ mission is to prepare students for a career in technology. It has also been engaged by companies to design and deliver innovative technology solutions. The platform works with the company to define the brief and solution they require and then, using the highly skilled human capital at Northcoders, they design and deliver the solution.

Speaking about the company, Founder & CEO of Northcoders’, Chris Hill, said:

“As well as providing the company with additional revenue visibility, it also demonstrates how well-regarded our technology training courses are in the UK.With one of the company’s core values being to improve diversity and inclusion within the tech industry, Northcoders are pleased to continue to offer these scholarships that provide accessibility to people from all walks of life across the UK whilst helping address the significant UK digital skills gap.”

Introduced a year ago with backing from the Department for Education, the 13-week individual scholarships give participants the chance to gain job-specific skills and a fast-track to an interview with a local employer. Northcoders claims that, upon completion, students will have gained the skills required for a role as a junior software developer.

To date, over 800 students have enrolled on Northcoders bootcamps with around 95 per cent. of graduates going on to be employed within 44 days of course completion. In doing so, the Manchester-based company has achieved a 4.9/5-star Feefo rating and built its reputation in the market.
