Domestika, a community for creative people that creates and sells online video tutorials and courses covering a range of visual arts and related skills, has raised $110 million and become the latest company to reach unicorn status at a $1.3 billion valuation.

The Series D funding round was led by long-time investor Zeev Ventures with additional contributions from GSV Ventures and other unnamed, private investors. Domestika’s current valuation of $1.3 billion is a huge spike, up from $350 million, when the company closed a $20 million Series C in October 2021.

Started originally in Madrid in 2002, Domestika provides a platform where the best creative experts share their knowledge through professionally-produced online courses and allows users to connect, learn and develop their skills around the world. It currently offers more than 2,000 courses, and it’s adding on average 110 new courses every month, covering subjects as diverse as illustration, arts and crafts, photography and video, calligraphy and typography, design, marketing and business, 3D and animation, among others.

There are courses presented in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Italian, and additionally, all courses feature subtitles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Polish, and Dutch. Domestika’s courses are created by 1,300 creative professionals and the platform now has more than 8 million members, who have collectively taken more than 13 million courses.

Commenting on the funding, Oren Zeev, Founding Partner at Zeev Ventures, said in a statement,

“At a time when it’s never been more vital for people to follow their passions and tap into their creativity, Domestika now has the scale to impact millions more around the world through its unique approach to education in creativity. Julio and his team have done an outstanding job in realizing their vision of building meaningful social learning experiences and bringing together curious minds from across the globe. I am excited to support the team as they continue to innovate and grow.”

Deborah Quazzo, The Managing Partner at GSV Ventures, added,

“GSV Ventures is so proud to align with the team at Domestika, who prove every day that learning should be social, joyful, and beautiful. Domestika is a game-changer in how we approach learning and creativity, empowering 8 million learners, and more than 1300 teachers around the world to pursue their creative passions. We are excited about their opportunities to continue to grow and scale globally.”

Joining Domestika’s community is free, but users pay for courses, which account for virtually all of the company’s revenues. The price on average ranges between $10 and $15 per course, which includes gaining access forever to the video and the community attached to the course.

Learners can get certifications for certain courses, but according to Julio G. Cotorruelo, Co-founder and CEO of Domestika, that kind of professional development is not the point for the platform. He said the platform is about joy and creativity and people mainly pay for and take courses on Domestika because they like it.

With this new funding, Domestika has raised around $200 million to date.
