Like any emergent technology, there has always been an aura of intrigue surrounding the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as its applications.

This, however, demystified gradually over the past 5-6 years as it has become more accessible to people in every section of society, as can be seen on social media and the global coverage AI gets in almost every field.

Today, AI has in many ways, become an integral part of our lives; sometimes even without our realizing it. From voice assistants in smartphones to self-driving cars; AI is poised as the definitive way forward in information-technology, as well as communication spheres.

Mobile phones are a focal point of several AI-based applications today, with mobile app development companies also receiving a growing number of AI-based app requests. The key applications of AI are more towards industries such as healthcare, defense, automotive, gaming, and now also education.

The capabilities of AI systems have very few limitations as compared to the existing constructs. Existing educational concepts such as e-learning, mobile learning, etc. can be augmented greatly with AI integration. AI has the potential to revolutionize the very foundations of our current education systems, signs of which are already beginning to show.

Here are some of the ways in which AI has already been incorporated in the field of education:

Grading

For most teachers, a very large chunk of time is invariably spent on grading, be it tests, assignments, homework, or any other form of coursework. And this is even more so when it comes to larger schools and colleges, where teachers end up checking over fifty individual assignments at a time – and sometimes even more. The amount of time spent on such tasks can be a goldmine for teachers in terms of reviewing/improving the curriculum, being more extensively involved with students, and other like activities.

Until now, the crucial nature of the grading system – insofar as having to physically grade – is non-navigatable for teachers. With AI technology, however, this issue is being resolved (in a great many educational institutions), with systems being able to grade papers, thus freeing up a great deal of time for teachers. It is professed that in the near future, AI will also be used for grading on more complex levels; essays for instance.

Student aid

Every student is different, insofar as their educational aptitude, retention, learning curve, as well as engagement standards. And this brings us to the longest persisting flaw in our education systems – educators just aren’t able to address all individual needs in their entirety given the lack of time they can devote to each student.

Now, however, with the advent of AI systems and their applications, students can receive a greater amount of care and attention on an individual basis. AI systems today are capable of preparing tailor-made education plans for students, based on the diverse factors, some of which were mentioned earlier. Moreover, this also allows teachers to keep a close watch on the progress being made by each student, and intervene should the need so arise.

Bridging gaps: teaching-learning

Many times, it so happens that there exists a gap in the teacher’s instruction (on a particular topic), and the student’s understanding of it. This is the case in many educational institutes today, especially the larger ones with over fifty students in a class. In such cases, much gets left unsaid (for no fault of anyone), and there is a lot left to be desired, from both the teacher, as well as student’s perspective. Such gaps can easily be traversed using an AI system that allows teachers to monitor student progress on an individual level, as well as point out any students lagging anywhere, along with possible solutions.

All of this information is processed, stored, and provided to teachers in a way that guides them towards better understanding their students’ needs. This can also be highly beneficial when it comes to certain subject matter issues that are being faced by several students in a class collectively. Furthermore, AI also indirectly enables teachers to make long-term changes to the teaching material, content, curriculum, syllabus, etc. based on learning trends displayed by students. For all this and more, partner with a mobile app development company to create technology solutions suited to any institution’s/college’s unique requirements.
