Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are subjects & learning streams that have always reserved a special place in the education system.

And why not, as studying of these subjects has always helped the society to transcend. Take for instance our daily used technology which we are so accustomed to using them in our home or at workplace, these are all creations of scientific knowledge. And now, the use of technology has perhaps bloomed totally and that’s why we feel its importance more than ever in our lives.

From what our observation goes at the moment, we can find the technology industry growing at an incredible rate and therefore, there is a huge demand for STEM skills in workers. With traditional learning process there was a gap created in the scientific learning process, students were not able to connect with the subject thereby losing interest in the subject.  Scientific concepts were not explained in depth and rote learning further destructed the creative and critical thinking ability in students. The trend was of course dangerous for the future development as job avenues were slowly getting squeezed. So the only way by which the gap could be eradicated in the education system was to reform the education sector.

Clearly, technology is transforming every industrial sector from health to finance to education. And it STEM education which is reshaping the entire scenario of education sector and has therefore gained a momentum. Predictions are that STEM education is the future of many jobs as it will create leaders who are not going to be job seekers but job creators too. They are workers who can code, design, who can resolve challenges, innovate and take up steady steps.

Different Approaches to Encouraging STEM learning

Understanding the immense potential of STEM learning, a lot of resources oriented to STEM learning have been introduced for the students to adopt STEM skills without inconvenience right from their tender age. With this regard, information on the STEM learning skills are shared on social media channels or blogs related to list of technology based solutions are circulated online for communication purpose. Example of one of its kind can be seen in the tweet below by an education technology consultant below.

Similarly, digital marketing agencies too who are associated with the promotion of educational based digital tools and resources are emphasizing focus on STEM learning in primary and secondary schools.

The idea of such promotions of STEM learning is to encourage student to get involved into scientific based learning right from the elementary schooling level. For the educators and parents too, such information help them guide the students to acquire true STEM education that helps them move confidently from school to further study and channelize their talent on resolving challenges of the future. When students get involved into high quality research innovations, they come up with solutions which will save lives, answer both social and environmental imperatives, enhance the economic productivity and growth levels and in turn create jobs for the future ready students.

Almost all the developed and developing nations at the moment are investing huge funds on innovative education and research. They are encouraging educators to undergo tech oriented professional development to cope up to the new teaching skills that involves blended and flip learning process. Educators are inspiring children from the earlier years to adopt all the important STEM subjects and support them to continue this study not just in the school level but in further education as well. So, maximum attempts are to create next generation who are not only good researchers but innovators and digitally literate citizens too, ready to work and lead in the tech driven world.

Thus to conclude, from what predictions are and what we can observe, it can be clearly understood that STEM learning has a positive future that will not just remain a dire need at the moment but retain its significance in the years to come as well.
