Novell India, an Attachmate Group company in association with Karunya University introduces Novell’s professional courses in their university curriculum. As part of the academic tie-up, the students pursuing M.Tech in Information Technology at the university will be offered industry accepted courses.

As per NASSCOM reports, a fifth to a third of the million students graduating out of India’s engineering colleges run the risk of being unemployed, this new initiative is designed to help students become  job ready with industry relevant experience.

Novell, Inc. is a leading multinational Software and Services Company headquartered in Provo, Utah, providing comprehensive infrastructure software solutions to organizations globally. The Novell University Program would help engineering students to learn as well as to work on some of the most advanced and sophisticated technologies in areas such as mobility, cloud, big data etc.

The program would provide an opportunity for them to gain real-time experience on cutting edge products from the entire Attachmate Group portfolio, which includes SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server and  SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SUSE provides one of the most interoperable platforms for enterprise computing available); NOWS (Novell Open Work Group Suite) – which provides organization with a secure, flexible and cost-effective IT infrastructure and a proven set of workgroup services); PlateSpin – which is industry’s only consolidated disaster recovery solution for both Windows and Linux, including SUSE Linux Enterprise and Novell ZENworks Mobile Management – which provides advanced device control and policy management for iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile, and other ActiveSync-enabled devices from a single administrative console.

Under the Novell University program, Novell will provide a cost effective bundled package which would include authorized training for the teachers, course ware for students, customized products for the university and certifications. The program will help ensure industry relevant learning for the students coupled with global certification which would empower the students further for their careers.. In addition to this, the university also plans to launch a Novell Excellence center to focus on these technologies at the Karunya University campus in Coimbatore.

The University program will feature a team of dedicated experts from Novell who will help train the teachers under the ‘train the trainer program’. The curriculum, which is an industry acknowledged course, will have curriculum support and instructor preparation in the following subjects that are added in their 4 semesters and the corresponding labs – NetIQ Access Manager, Identity Management, SUSE System Administration (CLP) &       SUSE Cloud Computing.

“This is the first time that we will tie-up with a university in India. Going forward, we hope to partner with at-least another 15 – 20 universities this year to integrate our courseware into the curriculum in a bid and to benefit the maximum number of students in India ”, said Mr. Venkatesh Swaminathan, Country Head, The Attachmate Group (Novell, NetIQ, SUSE & Attachmate).

“The onus of ensuring that the technical and engineering students that graduate every year in our country is world-class and employable lies on both the academia as well as the industry. With this collaboration we hope to take a small but important step towards achieving this objective”, he further added.

“In India, where the problem of employability of technical graduates is acute this initiative could provide the much much needed shot in the arm. We are pleased to be associated with Novell, who are industry leaders in the technology spaceand have come forward to offer their industry relevant courses to our students. With growing competition & demand for skilled employees in the technology industry, it is imperative that the industry and academia work in sync to address the lacuna that currently exists in our system,” said Dr. R. Elijah Blessing, Professor& Director, School of Computer Science and Technology, Karunya University.
